On October 12, 2019, the Laurelbrook church service began with a welcome and announcements by Michael (senior and elder in training). There will be an open house in the fire station Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00. There will be a fellowship dinner today in the Laurelbrook cafeteria immediately following the church service. Tomorrow there will be a memorial service in the Brayton church for Darwin Heisey at 3:00 p.m.
Leilani (senior) played an introit, Rodney Herra had the invocation, and the congregation sang “Praise to the Lord.” Michael had the Morning Prayer, and the congregation sang “Hear Our Prayer, O Lord”.
Michael then called for the morning offerings; the loose offerings went towards the Voice of Prophecy. Leilani played while Eldric (junior) and Sebastien Roy Lavallee collected the offerings. The congregation sang “Praise God, From Whom All Blessings Flow”, and Michael prayed for the offerings.
Sallie Bellino told the children a story about delivering soap, oil, and salt to mud huts in Mozambique, Africa. They met a girl who decided not to go to school because she had developed too many holes in her skirt. They brought the family with wood and water. Eventually she returned to school, happy to be back in school. 1 John 4:7-8 “7 ¶ Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. 8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.”
Eddilyn (sophomore) or Gem played “It Is Well” on her flute for special music, accompanied by Leilani on the piano. Then on the second stanza Leilani played the flute part while Gem accompanied her on the piano.
Mark (senior) read the scripture reading – Matthew 21:13 “And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.”
Rodney Herra had the sermon titled “My House Shall Be Called a House of Prayer”. The congregation sang “O Worship the King”. Rodney Herra had the closing prayer.

- Luke 2:6-7 “6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. 7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.”
- Jesus came to give us life by dying.
- Luke 2:41-49 “41 ¶ Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover. 42 And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast. 43 And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not [of it]. 44 But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day’s journey; and they sought him among [their] kinsfolk and acquaintance. 45 And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him. 46 And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions. 47 And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers. 48 And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing. 49 And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business?”
- Jesus realized His mission at age 12. His parents found Him in the temple.
- Luke 4:1-13 “1 ¶ And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, 2 Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered. 3 And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread. 4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. 5 And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. 6 And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. 7 If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. 8 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. 9 And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence: 10 For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee: 11 And in [their] hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. 12 And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. 13 And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season.”
- “Hungry” should really read “starved”.
- Satan came to Jesus at His weakest point, but Jesus never gave in.
- Luke 4:17-30 “17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, 18 The Spirit of the Lord [is] upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, 19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. 20 And he closed the book, and he gave [it] again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him. 21 And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears. 22 And all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. - People in congregation were upset at efforts to save the heathen.
- In the Garden, Jesus was deserted by His disciples, a close friend denying Him.
- Luke 22:63-65 “63 ¶ And the men that held Jesus mocked him, and smote [him]. 64 And when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face, and asked him, saying, Prophesy, who is it that smote thee? 65 And many other things blasphemously spake they against him.”
- Luke 22:70-23: “70 Then said they all, Art thou then the Son of God? And he said unto them, Ye say that I am. 71 And they said, What need we any further witness? for we ourselves have heard of his own mouth. 23:1 ¶ And the whole multitude of them arose, and led him unto Pilate. 2 And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this [fellow] perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ a King. 3 And Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And the rulers also with them derided [him], saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if he be Christ, the chosen of God. 36 And the soldiers also mocked him, coming to him, and offering him vinegar, 37 And saying, If thou be the king of the Jews, save thyself. 38 And a superscription also was written over him in letters of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS. 39 And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us. 40 But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? 41 And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss. 42 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. 43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise. 44 ¶ And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. 45 And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst. 46 And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost. 47 Now when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this was a righteous man.”
- He did all this for each of us.
- Ellen White says in Desire of Ages that all heaven wondered at the forgiveness of Christ on the Cross. If Satan had prevailed in one aspect, Christ would have failed.
- Jesus was willing to give all heaven for you.
- Matthew 21:13 “And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.”
- If we come to church to celebrate the sacrifice God made for us, then we would make the church a house of prayer.
- How many times do we talk when someone else is praying? Or leave the church during prayer?
- Do we really respect God the way we behave in church?
- The presence of the King of the Universe with us in church should affect the way we behave in church.
