The church service in the Laurelbrook Seventh-day Adventist Church on June 29, 2019 began with Clayton Brandt welcoming everyone and making announcements. On July 20 there will be a fellowship meal at Bubba Herra’s house.
Leilani (senior) played an introit on the piano. Clayton Brandt had the invocation. The congregation sang “Bringing in the Sheaves”. Rodney Herra had the main prayer.
Clayton Brandt called for the offering, which will go to the local budget. Sebastien Roy-Lavallee and Daryen (senior) collected the church offerings. Clayton Brandt then prayed for the offering.
Carole Warle told the children about God’s care for us. She read Psalm 121:4-6 “4 Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. 5 The LORD [is] thy keeper: the LORD [is] thy shade upon thy right hand. 6 The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.” God is always watching over us.
Maria (senior) and Essence (freshman) sang a duet, accompanied by Yzzeone on the guitar. Gustavo (junior) then read Philippines 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”
Rodney Herra then spoke on the topic “God’s Tools.” The congregation sang “Have Thine Own, Lord”. Rodney Herra had the closing prayer.

Following are some notes from the sermon:
- Genesis 6:13-22 “13 ¶ And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth. 14 Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch. 15 And this [is the fashion] which thou shalt make it [of]: The length of the ark [shall be] three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits. 16 A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; [with] lower, second, and third [stories] shalt thou make it. 17 And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein [is] the breath of life, from under heaven; [and] every thing that [is] in the earth shall die. 18 But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons’ wives with thee. 19 And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every [sort] shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep [them] alive with thee; they shall be male and female. 20 Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every [sort] shall come unto thee, to keep [them] alive. 21 And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather [it] to thee; and it shall be for food for thee, and for them. 22 ¶ Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.”
- God designed the ark. Noah was the Master Builder.
- Abraham came about 400 years later with about six million people on the earth at that time.
- People forgot the Lord by this time.
- Genesis 12:1-3 “1 ¶ Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee: 2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: 3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.”
- Exodus 3:7-10 “7 ¶ And the LORD said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which [are] in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows; 8 And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites. 9 Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel is come unto me: and I have also seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them. 10 Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.”
- Joshua 2:1-10 “1 ¶ And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spy secretly, saying, Go view the land, even Jericho. And they went, and came into an harlot’s house, named Rahab, and lodged there. 2 And it was told the king of Jericho, saying, Behold, there came men in hither to night of the children of Israel to search out the country. 3 And the king of Jericho sent unto Rahab, saying, Bring forth the men that are come to thee, which are entered into thine house: for they be come to search out all the country. 4 And the woman took the two men, and hid them, and said thus, There came men unto me, but I wist not whence they [were]: 5 And it came to pass [about the time] of shutting of the gate, when it was dark, that the men went out: whither the men went I wot not: pursue after them quickly; for ye shall overtake them. 6 But she had brought them up to the roof of the house, and hid them with the stalks of flax, which she had laid in order upon the roof. 7 And the men pursued after them the way to Jordan unto the fords: and as soon as they which pursued after them were gone out, they shut the gate. 8 ¶ And before they were laid down, she came up unto them upon the roof; 9 And she said unto the men, I know that the LORD hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you. 10 For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings
- Esther 4:11-14 “11 All the king’s servants, and the people of the king’s provinces, do know, that whosoever, whether man or woman, shall come unto the king into the inner court, who is not called, [there is] one law of his to put [him] to death, except such to whom the king shall hold out the golden sceptre, that he may live: but I have not been called to come in unto the king these thirty days. 12 And they told to Mordecai Esther’s words. 13 Then Mordecai commanded to answer Esther, Think not with thyself that thou shalt escape in the king’s house, more than all the Jews. 14 For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, [then] shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father’s house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for [such] a time as this?”
- God’s purpose for each person was to save others.
- Rodney then showed simple tools used for building. All tools were useful for completing a project, each having a purpose. But without someone who knows the purpose of each tool it is useless.
- A pencil, for example, has an important role in building, but it seems insignificant.
- Noah was used by God despite the fact he got drunk. God also used Abraham despite his wives. Moses tried to use God’s work on his own, but after 40 years’ time out, God used him to free Israel. Rahab was useful despite her lying. Esther was used to get the king save her people despite her timidity.
- God can use each of us if we are willing to follow Him and let Him do the leading, no matter what our inclinations are.
Will you let God use you His way?
