On Sabbath, January 25, 2020, Laurelbrook’s Sabbath services began with a song service led by Mark (senior) and Jordan (junior), accompanied on the piano by Mark (senior).  The opening song was “All to Jesus I Surrender.”

Anika Parham welcomed everyone. Mark (senior) had prayer and read the scripture reading – Jeremiah 17:9 “The heart [is] deceitful above all [things], and desperately wicked: who can know it?”

Naythan (sophomore) read a story from Bulgaria about a boy who was given a train he had wanted. Eventually, another boy who also liked trains began compulsory factory military service. He was determined to observe the Sabbath and came to get a job in the small engine shop, a most coveted position in that plant because it was cleaner.

Jeshua and Vincent (freshmen) collected the Laurelbrook Missions Offering.  Cierra, Nadine, and Essence (freshmen) sang a vocal trio.

Anika Parham had a theme talk about “Will You Stand?” She showed a film clip about the three Hebrews and fiery furnace to illustrate her talk. Anika Parham then had the closing prayer.. The congregation divided into three Sabbath School classes, a class in the main church sanctuary taught by Clayton Brandt, a student class taught by Sergio Monterroso in the boys’ dorm lobby, and a student class taught by Sorino Voicu.

Some notes on the talk:

  1. Jeremiah 17:9 “The heart [is] deceitful above all [things], and desperately wicked: who can know it?”
  2. 2 Peter 1:10 “Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:”
  3. Standing shows Jesus that we really love Him.
