On Sabbath, November 2, 2019, Laurelbrook’s Sabbath services began with a song service led by Yzzynne and Heisler (sophomores), accompanied on the piano by Freddy (sophomore). The opening song was “Praise Him”. The sophomores had the Sabbath School program this morning.
Eidelyn welcomed everyone. Jafat had prayer and read the scripture reading – Psalm 24:1-2 “1 ¶ « A Psalm of David. » The earth [is] the LORD’S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. 2 For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods.”
Cierra and Kelly-Anne read a mission story from South Sudan about a soldier who wasn’t happy about killing people. The Lord gave him a dream, he read his Bible, and became a Seventh-day Adventist. Close family members were also converted.
Leon and Yzzynne collected the Laurelbrook Mission Offering, which goes to support Laurelbrook’s mission trips. Yzzynne sang a vocal solo for special music, accompanied on the piano by Leilani (senior).
Freddy had the theme talk on and had the closing prayer. The congregation divided into three Sabbath School classes, a class in the main church sanctuary taught by Sergio Bellani, a student class in the nursing home taught by Stephanie Roy-Lavallee, and a student class in the nearby boys’ dorm lobby taught by Ruan Swanapoel.
Some notes on the theme talk:
- Psalm 24:1-2 “1 ¶ « A Psalm of David. » The earth [is] the LORD’S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. 2 For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods.”
- God has all power over the universe.
- But His character is all important.
- Exodus 34:6 “And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth,”
- Human rulers have done selfish acts during their rule. They care about their power.
- God can do anything He wants, but He wants to make us better and loves us.
- God wants to be with you all the time. He wants us to love Him.
- Galatians 5:22 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,”
- Humans seem to be continually trying God with their misbehaviors.
- Before sin, everything was perfect. Then Satan fell.
- God created this world with happy humans living there. Then came sin with disobedient humans. In that moment of sin, God could have gotten rid of the human race. But He loved us.
- John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
- Jesus came to pay the price for sin, to save humans who were opposed to Him.
- Please love God and pay attention to Him. God will forgive our sins if we ask Him. We can trust Him with His knowledge and His love.
