Services in the Laurelbrook Seventh-day Adventist Church on June 29, 2019 began with a song service led by Kelly Ann  and Yzzynne (sophomores), accompanied on the piano by Beth Brandt.   The opening song was “Stand Up! Stand Up for Jesus!” Ivana (sophomore) welcomed everyone. Itzel (junior) read the scripture reading, and Dafne (senior) had prayer.

Yzzynne (sophomore) and Essence (freshman) told about an experience in the Philippines.  The family heard a popping sound. Then bullets started to hit the house so they laid down on the floor. They were worried about their father coming home in the midst of this fighting. He made it safely home, and the family survived.

Yzzynne and Essence then called for the Laurelbrook Missions Offering, which was collected by Ernesto (junior) and Gustavo (senior).

Maria played a violin solo. The girls then recited the Ten Commandments and sang “The Law of the Lord”, accompanied on the guitar by Yzzynne.  Heissel (senior), Denisse (senior), and Stephanie Roy-Lavallee had the theme talk, which was on the Ten Commandments.

Stephanie Roy-Lavallee then had the closing prayer and announced the classes.   Students met behind the glass for their Sabbath School class. Stephanie Roy-Lavallee taught the student Sabbath School class.   Clayton Brandt taught the Sabbath School class in the church sanctuary.

Following are a few notes on the theme talk:

  1. Matthew 5:18 “For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.”
  2. Luke 16:17 “And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail.”
  3. Those who teach others to disregard the Law of God were condemned by Jesus.
  4. Romans 7:12 “Wherefore the law [is] holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.”
  5. Knowing the truth does not make a person righteous.   We must know Jesus, the Author of that truth.
  6. Your actions reveal what is in your heart.
  7. The Jews felt they could be righteous by keeping the Law, yet they murdered Christ.
  8. Church membership or attending church doesn’t make us righteous.
  9. Jesus’ actions demonstrated the Law of God.
  10. God always is happy to have us connect with Him.
