The Sabbath services on January 26, 2019 began with a song service led by Cesia and Mahary (juniors) accompanied by Leilani (junior) on the piano. The opening song was “Seeking the Lost”.
Ashley (senior) welcomed everyone. Itzel (senior) had prayer and read the scripture reading – 1 Timothy 4:12 “Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.”
Jissel (senior) read the mission story. She then called for the Laurelbrook Missions Offering, which was collected by Eric and Suriel (seniors) and which goes to support Laurelbrook mission trips.
Denisse (junior) played a violin solo for special music, accompanied by Leilani on the piano. Rich Sutton had the theme talk on “Youth Service”, had the closing prayer, and announced the classes. Clayton Brandt led the lesson study in the main sanctuary, Rich Sutton a student class “behind the glass” at the back of the church, and two other student classes met.
Personnel Other Than Students:
Clayton Brandt – works with Laurelbrook’s heavy equipment
Rich Sutton – Laurelbrook president
Following are a few notes from Rich Sutton’s presentation:
- Ellen White says that teaching children in church schools is very important, especially in those countries that require all children be in school.
- Mission-minded teachers should teach children to be mission-minded.
- In Mexico, children are leaving the church due to lack of educational opportunities organized by the church.
- For his own children, Rich worked with the temple plan, giving 7% of his income, when his children were growing up. Everyone in the church paid that 7%. The school had plenty of students.
- On Dayton Mountain and nearby, churches had many church schools. But today only Laurelbrook had a school – and the churches are declining.
- Pastor Richie is planting a Spanish church and planning for a Pathfinder club.
- Youth bring an enthusiastic quality to any church – and to Laurelbrook.
- When Castro came to power, he closed all the Adventist schools.
- Moses’ mother put Moses in a basket on the river. God could have worked the same miracle with other children.
- Adventist teachers’ base pay is often quite high. But schools could be started for less.
- At Laurelbrook, we need missionary teachers and financial support to start schools where needed.
- 1 Timothy 4:12 “Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.”
