Wendy Carr Goes Over the Christmas Story

Sabbath services on December 16, 2017 began with a song service led by Mariangela and Elyjah (juniors), accompanied by Samantha (sophomore) on the piano. Singing during the service was also accompanied by two violinists and two people playing flutes.  The opening song was “Tell Me the Story of Jesus”. Wendy Carr welcomed everyone.

Wendy Carr read the scripture reading – Luke 2:11 “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.” She then had prayer.

She then had some reflections on Christ’s sacrifice by coming to earth:

  • She read from the Desire of Ages about Jesus’ mission to save earth’s humans. He shunned outward display so people wouldn’t be attracted to the display but listen to His message. The congregation then sang “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel”.
  •
  • Wendy Carr then read about angels coming to the Holy Land but found Jerusalem unready for Christ’s coming, utterly absorbed in themselves and worship drawing attention to themselves. Angels attended Joseph and Mary on their journey to Bethlehem.  But Bethlehem doesn’t welcome them at all so they found refuge in an animal shelter.  The congregation then sang “Away in a Manager”.
  •
  • She continued reading about angels passing by the Jewish leaders to declare the good news to shepherds.  The congregation then sang “Angels from the Realms of Glory”.
  •
  • She continued reading about the angels declaring the good news to shepherds on the hills outside Bethlehem.  The congregation then sang “Hark, the Herald Angels Sing”.
  •
  • Wendy Carr then read from Desire of Ages about the song the angels sang will be remembered until the end of time. Angels continue to attend believers working for the Lord. The three Carr girls then sang “Wonderful, Merciful Savior”.

Wendy Carr then announced the classes and had the closing prayer. The Laurelbrook Missions Offering was collected by Rodney Herra at the door as the congregation filed out.  It goes to support Laurelbrook mission trips.

The congregation then became four Sabbath School classes, one taught by Clayton Brandt in the church sanctuary and one in the back of the sanctuary “behind the glass” taught by Rich Sutton and Pedro Arce, one in the CNA House taught by Ricardo Reid, and one in the nursing home taught by Elizabeth Castle.
